The Level 2 course offers students an integrated course comprising of Language Systems, Skills and Critical Thinking. The reading and writing skills are integrated and developed in one class by using Pathways 1 Reading, Writing and Critical Thinking text book and the other class focuses on the listening and speaking skills by using Pathways 1 Listening, Speaking and Critical Thinking text book. In addition, students are provided with online interactive workbooks to promote independent learning. These text books improve students’ language skills and emphasize on critical thinking. Level 2 courses are offered during the fall, spring and summer semesters, each year.
Aim
The final aim of the General Foundation Program is to ensure that students, once admitted to the chosen faculties, will be able to participate actively and productively in their degree courses and achieve the appropriate academic results.

1. Language Systems
- Recognize, understand, and use a variety of grammatical structures and syntax
- Inferring meaning from context. Enrich and develop lexis, knowledge of idioms, and functional language structures.
- Recognize and use appropriate expressions in correct contexts.
- Understand and use appropriate word- and sentence-level pronunciation
2. Skills
- Improve reading abilities in skimming and scanning, and improve higher-order skills such as prediction, deduction and inference
- Engage in the writing process and demonstrate control over sentence and paragraph structure to efficiently connect ideas
- Understand and identify the context, theme, topic, and details of listening texts
- Speak confidently and appropriately during a range of tasks and engage in conversations of various topics

- Manage time and be responsible for their learning such as joining classes on time.
- Find and use appropriate sources in research and be able to summarize, paraphrase, and cite sources.

A’Sharqiyah University (ASU) is a private institution of higher education located in the north of the A’Sharqiyah region of the Sultanate of Oman. It is located in Ibra 150 km from Muscat, the capital. It was established in 2009 by Ministerial Decision (78/2009) issued by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation.
