Learning Resources Centre services

Services are the main target to be expected from the Learning Resources Centre at A’Sharqiyah University. Learning Resources centre offers a variety of services that commensurate with the nature of the academic community, such as providing access to information, circulation, photography, printing, scanning, web searching, guiding, training and browsing national and international databases. Learning Resource Centre is planning to provide services more sophisticated to include services that accommodate and meet the requirements of the academic community for which it was established. In addition to serving the local community of Ibra at A’Sharqiyah North Governorate. Learning Resource Centre collection shall commensurate with the nature and needs of the surrounding environment. Currently, services of Learning Resources Centre can be summarized in the following:

Accessing information
This service is provided for members of the academic community that includes faculty, students, staff, and alumni. This service has been recently extended to local individuals of Ibra state. It is offered throughout the weekly working days (Sunday- Wednesday) from 8:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M., and on Thursday from 8:00 A.M. until 3:00 P.M. The Learning Resource Center includes multiple halls with the necessary calm for reading and studying.

Circulation
This service is offered to faculty members, undergraduate students, staff, graduates and members of the local community. Learning Resources Centre materials are checked out according to the Learning Resources Centre policies. Policies indicate and determine types of items to be checked out, numbers of items to be checked out, periods of circulation, beneficiary categories and rules of the circulation process.

Copying, printing and scanning documents
This service is offered to all academic community that include faculty members, students, staff, graduates and the locals of Ibra community. There are multifunction photocopy machines in the Learning Resource Centre at the ground floor that can be used to photocopy, print and scan documents. Users and visitors can print and copy the required materials using a prepaid card. The price of the card is RO 1,400 (rechargeable). Students can use this card to print up to 100 pages for RO 1.

Computer labs usage
The ground floor at Learning Resource Center includes computer labs, which contains 50 attached workstations, allocated to all academic community that include faculty members, students, staff, graduates and the locals of Ibra community.  All computers are equipped with a CD / DVD player and easy to use high-speed Internet access.

Wi-Fi Internet service
This service is provided to all academic community that include faculty members, students, staff, graduates and members of the local community.  It is offered during weekdays (Sunday - Wednesday) from 8:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M., and on Thursday from 8:00 A.M. until 3:00 P.M. to browse and use Wi-Fi Internet service free of charge.

Database searching services
This service is offered to all academic community that include faculty, students, staff and also extended to members of the local community. It is offered during weekdays (Sunday- Wednesday) from 8:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M., and on Thursday, from 8:00 A.M. until 3:00 P.M. Users can access all types of information using national and international databases subscribed by the university to seek and retrieve various sources of information through Omani Virtual Library: Masader.

Guidance and reference services
This service provides answers to inquiries and questions of different beneficiaries, using either traditional reference material or non-traditional, where staff at Learning Resources Centre assist users in using various resources, online databases, general and specialized reference materials.

Current awareness services
By current awareness services, users of all groups are informed about current updates and news related to Learning Resource Center collections and activities. Users are informed about the current state of new items added to main collections, and informed about upcoming activities planned for future, such as cultural events and symposiums.

Training and development services
It is a service, in which training courses or short-term workshops are held to provide various skills and training to users. This service varies according to the subject and nature of the training sessions. It is offered to all academic community that include faculty, students, staff and also extended to members of the local community.

Holding seminars and organizing cultural events
This service is offered to enhance community engagement. It focuses on public lectures and cultural events of various topics and interest to the local community and academia. These events are usually conducted by faculty members from within the academic community. Guest speakers from outside are also welcomed.

Reserving individual study rooms and research discussion halls
The Learning Resource Center includes several quiet halls for students to study, discuss and debate. Students can reserve these halls for various activities for a specified period of time. 

btaining the Learning Resource Centre membership
 It is a service directed to the local community with the aim of providing information resources to readers and researchers through internal access and external loaning and to encourage people to benefit from the services of the centre such as attending workshops, lectures and cultural events.
Omani Corner
 This is a special corner for scientific and intellectual groups that regularly meet to discuss the Sultanate’s various historical, religious, social, economic, legal and educational aspects, as well as the intellectual production of the Omani writers.
Inter-Library Loan
 The Learning Resource Center offer the Inter-Library Loan services to our ASU LRC users (Faculty, Staff, Student, subscriber or member). The user can request an electronic source from any other library.
