Vice Chancellor’s speech
Dr. Abood bin Hamed Al Sawafi, Vice Chancellor, stated that, as of its establishment in the academic year 2010/2011, the University has endeavored steadily to achieve its objectives and contribute to the dissemination of knowledge, education, research and community service through a strategy involved all concerned stakeholders in setting its attributes, taking into account all commitments, potential and challenges. He also added, the opening of this campus is one of the main themes of ASU strategy through which aims to be a leader in higher education by strengthening the inherent values and creativity, economic and social development through the enrichment of knowledge by adopting creative teaching methods and applied research which contribute effectively to social and economic advancement of the region and provide a stimulating learning environment. He also stated that the University opened its doors in October 2010 with three colleges, the College of Business Administration, the College of Applied and Health Sciences , the College of Engineering, however, we continued our efforts in conjunction with the planning and execution process of this edifice which resulted in adding another two colleges: the College of Arts and Humanities and the College of Law, after the opening of this campus the overall capacity will reach about 7000 students and will provide ample space for the University to expand its programs and majors and extend community service activities according to the intended role and strategy. Despite the challenges faced by the University since the foundation and the limited financial abilities, ASU was able to reach many achievements at different educational levels, research and student extracurricular and curricular activities.
