College of Engineering Events

  1. The College of Engineering was invited by Ibra Municipality to participate in the Infrastructure exhibition event that was scheduled to take place at the Ministry of Education grounds in Safalat, Ibra on 21-23 October 2014. The College welcomed this invitation as it provided the opportunity to showcase some of the civil engineering laboratory equipment such as the rebound hammer, ultrasonic testing machines, surveying equipment, Autocard software, etc. Marketing literature relating to programs offered in the College was prepared as the event would have provided the ideal opportunity to reach out to members of the public, parents and potential students. Unfortunately, the event was cancelled at the last minute.
  2. The College of Engineering held a very successful induction program for its new students on Thursday 23rd October, 2014 from 10.00 am to 12:30pm. A few continuing students attended as well. The meeting was attended by all staff and about 60 students overall. It provided the opportunity for staff to explain what is expected of students on the various programs in the College and accorded the opportunity for the students to meet each other in an informal setting.
  3. A very successful site visit to Phase 2 of the University Campus was arranged for College of Engineering students on Tuesday 11th November, 2014.  The student experience was extremely positive. The students got an appreciation of reinforced concrete practice, materials testing including cube tests and the role of pre-stressed concrete in helping to achieve long and wide spacing in buildings without columns.
  4. The College of Engineering hosted a seminar on Nanotechnology on 17th December 2014. The seminar was very successful; and attended by both students and staff.
  5. The College of Engineering held its open day on 29th December 2014 with the VC as the Guest of Honor. The external guest speaker led a workshop on soft skills in engineering practice. Dr Muslim Majeed gave a presentation titled “Reflections on Engineering Research”.
  6. The College of Engineering held a very successful induction program for its new students on Sunday 8th February, 2015. New and continuing students attended the event. The meeting was attended by all staff and over 70 students overall. It provided the opportunity for staff to explain the new system of course delivery under the clustering system and accorded the chance for students to meet each other in an informal setting.
  7. The Dean of Engineering held a very fruitful meeting with student representatives from the College on 11th March 2015 to get their feedback on the quality of teaching delivery and the student experience.
  8. College of Engineering students on the BEng Electronics and Communication Engineering participated in a robotics workshop on 25th March 2015 as part of the Culture Week. Several College of Engineering students and staff participated in the Culture week as well.
  9. Adnan Kabbani (Representing the Dean) visited the Military Technological College with the Vice Chancellor on 2nd April, 2015. He reported back that there is excellent laboratory provision in the Engineering disciplines which could be a model to inform our own future laboratory development.
  10. Professor Sam Wamuziri and Dr. Adnan Kabbani attended a two day workshop on 8 -9th April 2015 in Muscat on Renewable Energy organized by The Research Council. TRC has put aside 6m OMR to fund research into the area of renewable energy.
  11. Professor Sam Wamuziri and the Vice Chancellor attended a meeting with the Austrian Delegation in Muscat on 20th April, 2015. From the meeting, it became evident that there are opportunities for building collaborative partnerships with Austrian Universities
  12. Civil and Environmental Engineering students visited the construction site for phase II of the University Campus on 19th April 2015
  13. An event to award certificates to all those who qualified for the Dean’s Honor Roll was successfully held on Wednesday 29th April 2015.
  14. Mr Tariq Umar attended and presented a paper at a Conference on Ports in Oman: Business potentials, Opportunities and Challenges, held on May 5-6, 2015 at MOHE Rustaq College of Applied Sciences. The Paper was jointly authored by Professor Sam Wamuziri and Mr Tariq Umar.
  15. Mr Tariq Umar attended and presented a paper at the 8th International Conference on Construction in the 21st Century (CITC-8), held on May 27-30, 2015 in Thessalonika, Greece. The Paper was jointly authored by Mr Tariq Umar and Professor Sam Wamuziri
  16. Ms Nasrin AlHajri (Dean’s Co-ordinator) with staff from the Marketing Department visited Mazoon Secondary School on 5th May, 2015 in Ibra to promote programs that are offered in the College of Engineering.
  17. Professor Sam Wamuziri attended a workshop on 2nd July, 2015 in Muscat on “global navigation satellite system GNSS and the latest surveillance systems and global positioning services” organized by The Research Council.
  18. Professor Sam Wamuziri and Dr. Adnan Kabbani attended a two day workshop on 7 -8th October 2015 in Nizwa University on Renewable Energy organized by The Research Council.
  19. Tariq Umar attended a workshop on 6th October 2015 in ICE 4th Middle East and Africa Convention organized by the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE, UK) and Oman Society of Engineers.
  20. 4th year students from Civil and Environmental Engineering visit Desalination Water company Sur as a part of their study on 12th Oct, 2015
  21. Professor Sam Wamuziri attended a workshop on 4th November 2015 in College of Banking and financial Studies on Benchmarking in Higher Education Institute: A Quality Enhancement Tool organized by Ministry of Higher Education.
  22. Professor Sam Wamuziri attended a workshop on 23rd November 2015 in Crown Plaza on Risk Management
  23. Tariq Umar present a paper in Dhofar University on 9th & 10th Dec, 2015 about A Review of Conventional and Renewable Energy Resources in Oman
  24. Adnan Kabbani and Dr. Mahfouz saeed participate in Scientific exploration center to evaluate their students projects on 14th & 15th Dec, 2015
  25. Electronic and Telecommunication engineering student went for industrial visit to Voltamp company in Muscat on 16th December, 2015

  31. Tariq Umar attended and presented a paper on improving safety performance in construction organization, held on 14th April, 2016.
  32. . Abdullrahman AL rasbi conduct a workshop on “How to build your capstone design project” for Engineering students on 19th April, 2016.
  33. An event to award certificates to all those who    qualified for the Dean’s Honor Roll was successfully held on 3rd May, 2016 on University Day.
